Jamie Chan, Class of 2023

Jamie is entering her fourth year in the Networking and IT Security program at Ontario Tech. She has demonstrated leadership in the university community, including Women in IT, Business and IT Society, and Networking and IT Society. She has various working experiences and is eager to start her internship at Microsoft this summer!

Jamie's Leadership at Ontario Tech

  • Women in IT - President 2020, VP Communications 2018-2019

  • Business and IT Society (BITSoc) - VP of IT 2020

  • Networking and IT Society (NetSoc) - 1st-year liaison 2018

Work Experience

I started my career journey at a mid-sized insurance firm, The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group, as a Transformation and Strategic Delivery Intern for the summer of 2020, and then part-time throughout my time in university. I learned a lot about agile, business intelligence, and especially time management.

I then pursued a role as a Technology Adoption Analyst Intern at Loblaw Technology from the summer of 2021 to April 2022. This was a big transition for me. I was able to hone many skills like strategic planning, creating project plans, and product marketing. I also had a lot of autonomy in projects which helped me realize what I truly enjoy in a career - innovative technology and people.

And that's where I ended up! For the summer of 2022, I'll be joining Microsoft as a Solution Specialist. I've also received offers from Amazon, IBM, and Publicis Sapient. With that comes the wrap of my career journey as an intern. Next, I'll be starting at Deloitte as an Omnia AI consultant upon graduation in December 2022.

I've had a very comprehensive and unique tech journey! I've had a lot of fantastic mentors along the way who've taught me empowerment, confidence, and how to navigate the tech industry as a woman. I hope to eventually also be a mentor to other individuals who'd like to pursue tech.

Jamie’s Advice

My most significant piece of advice is to make the most out of every opportunity you have. I got my first internship because I attended OTU's Career Fair. I networked with peers from different clubs, which led to a referral to Loblaw. I attended Deloitte's National Leadership Conference, which opened the doors to an interview. Put your best self forward in every situation because you'll never know where that'll get you!
